THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF A PRINT SHOP… WHAT IS REQUIRED?
Visual communication
INAUGURAL CONFERENCE
Optimising costs, building customer loyalty, simplifying order taking, optimising production, streamlining sales administration… Because of or thanks to the crisis, the subject of the “digital transformation” of companies is now making its way into all sectors, including the print sector.
If we take the example of online printing, it is obvious that it has played a role of shock absorber for many companies during the pandemic, to the point of becoming an essential growth relay for them.
The democratisation of certain uses, linked to teleworking, has also accelerated this transformation, so much so that it is no longer a question of a trend but of an industrial and cultural revolution. Print is not dead, but it is more personalised, targeted and produced more on demand. This is undoubtedly changing the way it is produced. During this inaugural conference, Ludovic Martin and his guests will offer you nothing less than to plunge into the heart of the print reactor of tomorrow. Future is now!

TEXTILE PRINTING: THE KEYSTONE OF A SOURCING PROCESS THAT IS REINVENTING ITSELF
Caught between declining sales, the hunt for unsold stock and the desire for more rational consumption, brands are reshuffling their sourcing policies more than ever. The year 2020 will be a landmark in the fashion and clothing industry, with a growing number of brands trying their hand at on-demand production in France. In this new ecosystem under construction, printing obviously has its place.

WEB-TO-PACK: THE NEXT REVOLUTION IN PACKAGING PRINTING?
Packaging
Initially confined to very basic offers, web-to-pack is now making its way into a market driven by customisation and small series. The arrival of more sophisticated offers that integrate several materials, including corrugated cardboard, and new digital finishing solutions, suggests that a revolution is underway in the packaging printing sector, similar to what we have seen in previous years with web-to-print. Will history repeat itself? We will ask our guests. Together with self-adhesive labels, packaging is one of the most successful sectors in the online printing industry today.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE EXAPRINT 4.0 WORKSHOP
Web-to-print
Since its creation in 1998, Exaprint has been one of the pioneering printers in the field of web-to-print. Today, at its site in Mauguio, near Montpellier, more than 160 people work in the 10,000 m2 workshop.
In 2019, the online printer has decided to reinternalise its production. A €15 million investment plan has been put in place: it includes the complete renewal of the presses, the recruitment of 40 people and the reorganisation of production flows.
FLORIAN BRUAND, IT Manager at Exaprint, takes us behind the scenes of this workshop, which is now at the cutting edge of innovation.

SUSTAINABLE CREATION : INTRODUCTION
Sourcing
Eco-design, reuse, up-cycling, anti-waste ideas, etc. The adaptation of the world of communication to the challenges of the ecological transition is part of an inescapable systemic change, which is not always easy to undertake.
Consumers are becoming more and more engaged and informed and are demanding accountability, and in turn, brands are also demanding accountability from their service providers. Traceability of materials, recyclability of media… the questions are becoming more precise and the expectations greater. More than ever, printers and printers must become experts in this field and think about the end of life of the media they use, right from the creation of a product. What role do suppliers play in this equation? Does their responsibility end when they have sold their products? Here is a cross-section of testimonies.

THE MAIN STAGES OF A WEB-TO-PRINT PROJECT
Web-to-print
Ludovic Martin started practising web-to-print in 2000, on a system combining the PrintCafé interface with an Indigo press, which did not yet belong to HP. This initiation gave him the feeling that, for the first time in his career, two of his passions, the web and print, were finally converging… when everything had been opposing them until then. From 2007 to 2009, he led online publishing platform projects in Quark Xpress Server for large companies, which gave him a first-hand look at the potential of online publishing for print marketing materials. In 2010, he led the design of an online printing platform, Wedia Expresso, for Orange. He then joined Exaprint in 2012 as the platform’s digital and e-Commerce marketing director.
Today, he shares his expertise with his peers via his blog ludovic-martin.com and active participation in numerous conferences. He also assists many companies in their digital transformation projects

BRANDS: WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES FOR 2022?
Signs & Signage
This year has been a busy one for the retail sector. If last year was marked by the debates on the Climate Law, this year will see its first applications. Also to be followed are the ongoing revisions of the Local Advertising Regulations (RLP), the implementation of the new standard on accessibility and the still very lively discussions on light “pollution”.
Julia Boutoille-Nojac, president of the e-VISIONS professional association and director of the company Nojac Enseignes, will shed light on all these hot topics with figures to back it up.
It will also be an opportunity to remind the audience that e-VISIONS remains committed to the entire profession and is continuing the work on opening up the sector undertaken by the union. The strengthening of the sector’s environmental approaches also remains a strong subject on which the union continues to invest via its Environment Commission. A White Paper on these subjects is expected in 2022. The creation of a new prize, designed to reward sustainable projects, will also mark the next edition of the ICONA D’OR competition, which will be officially launched at the C!Print trade show.

NEW REGULATIONS: WHAT IMPACT FOR THE PRINT INDUSTRY?
Visual communication
The Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy Act (AGEC) aims to accelerate the change of production and consumption model in order to limit waste and preserve natural resources, biodiversity and the climate.
On 1 January 2022, a new set of measures will come into force. Press publications and advertisements will have to be sent without plastic packaging. It will be forbidden to stick a label directly onto fruit or vegetables, unless these labels are compostable and made up in whole or in part of bio-based materials. The state will also no longer buy single-use plastics for use in its workplaces or at events it organises. The responsibility of industrialists in the management of their waste will also be extended with the creation of new polluter-pays channels. These include mineral oils, which are used in the manufacture of many inks.
Matthieu Prévost, Environment Specialist at UNIIC, will decipher these measures for us and present all the issues at stake.

DE-INKING, FINISHING: WHEN PRINT PUTS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT TO THE TEST
Visual communication
Finishing, personalisation… are now the weapons of mass seduction used by printers to enhance the value of print in the face of the advocates of 100% digital communication. With good reason. According to a study carried out by InfoTrends, European clients are prepared to pay a supplement of 40 to 90%, depending on the effect, for finished documents.
But what about the recycling of these beautifully crafted materials, using selective varnish and inkjet printing? At a time when manufacturing processes are increasingly scrutinised by clients looking for virtuous solutions for their communication, the question is becoming more and more important, with both ecological and economic issues at stake. Citeo, the company approved by the State to manage the paper EPR, considers inkjet printing to be a disruptive element in sorting and applies a 5% penalty on all digitally printed paper.
The manufacturer Konica Minolta has studied the subject in collaboration with the expert Matthieu Prévost and the printing company Baron & Fils. They will be at C!Print to share their thoughts with us.

LOW-CODE IN WEB-TO-PRINT?
Web-to-print
If you are in the process of designing or redesigning an eCommerce site, or even a business software, before wanting to create everything from scratch, the first question you should ask yourself is whether there are already existing solutions that will meet your needs. Creating a project from scratch requires a lot of resources and there is a severe lack of experienced developers on the market.
Low-code, which has long been decried, is once again in vogue in IT projects. By assembling pieces of pre-written code and sometimes even using automated sequences, there is less risk of creating something that doesn’t work as intended. And more and more companies are opting for this kind of solution.
There are also solutions in the field of web-to-print. What are the advantages? What are the limitations? What are the points to bear in mind when using this type of solution? Ludovic Martin and his guests provide some answers.

CSR SCORING: HOW TO PROVE THAT YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE SERVICE PROVIDER?
Visual communication
What tools do small and medium-sized enterprises in the graphic arts industry use today to structure a relevant CSR approach? In recent years, a proliferation of initiatives of all kinds – evaluations, ranking indices, extra-financial ratings, trophies, but also professional brands, logos, etc. – some of which are self-declared “labels” or even “certifications”, have proliferated, making the issue increasingly complex for company managers. At the same time, awareness of environmental issues has increased among advertisers, driven by increasingly committed consumers, putting additional pressure on the market. So how do we find our way through this maze of “solutions”? What are the best practices? What is the right level of commitment to have? How can we help the massification of CSR in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMIs), which are at the heart of the French economic fabric? These are all questions that we will ask our guests during this round table.

CUSTOMISATION: BREAKING THROUGH THE CLICHÉS
Décoration
A yellow New York taxi, a luxuriant jungle, an old Cuban woman smoking her cigar… These images have travelled around the world to become the symbols of a strong trend in recent years: “personalised decoration”. While everyone was looking to be different, original and unique, the opposite has happened. By dint of drawing inspiration from the same sources and image banks, everything has ended up looking the same, thus betraying the initial promise of creating unique worlds.
If the use of image banks was the first reflex of professionals in the sector to personalise their decorations, it would seem that the market is turning the page and is now drawing its inspiration from artists, photographers and designers.
Is the time for “real” personalisation (finally) here?
